Detectives are reviewing "all of the available evidence" after the pub, off Himley Road near Dudley, was gutted in the fire that started at around 10pm on Saturday, just two weeks after it was sold to a private buyer.

In a tweet, Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands, said there were questions to answer over the incident.

"A lot of questions surrounding the Crooked House fire that need answering, and I'm sure the authorities will get to the truth," he said.

"Today all we can say is what a tragedy, and I sincerely hope this iconic Black Country landmark can be restored and preserved."

Staffordshire Police has said that the investigation into the cause of the blaze continues, and they are "reviewing all of the available evidence". The force has also acknowledged the speculation that has arisen since.
